U-Phonik
U-Phonik, the new music phenomenon out of Charlotte, NC, is redefining the standards of modern alternative rock. Their music stands out from today's garden variety radio pop with its innovative, powerful melodies and a unique cultural flair. Blend these elements with creative lyricism, high-energy performances, and the vibrant personalities of the band members, and the result is an irresistible sound that is U-Phonik.
Fronted by soulful and charismatic Stephan Angers on lead vocal and the artistic guitar playing of Louis Fiset, U-Phonik delivers an unparalleled range of original tunes, from meaningful ballads to guitar-driven rock anthems. Flanked by the dramatic bass lines of Francis Rufiange and Mike Salvatore's rhythmical styling, the foursome is progressive, edgy and undeniably talented.
U-Phonik got its start in Montreal, Canada, where the band garnered local success with their French music. Their single "Marguerite" quickly rocketed to the top of the charts at Quebec City's renowned radio station, CHOI 98.1 FM, and received substantial airplay on Quebec TV's Musique Plus. A desire to broaden their musical horizons saw the band expanding boundaries by recreating their music for an English-speaking audience, creating a new style infused with their original French-Canadian culture.
In 2001, U-Phonik relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, where the band has established itself as one of the best acts in the region. The band is now expanding its fan base throughout the Southeast. Headlining at popular nightlife hot spots and clubs as well as colleges and universities, U-Phonik quickly attracted the attention of area music industry executives and radio stations. Their song, "Sunshine in a Box" was featured on WEND 106.5's "The Best of 90 Minutes" compilation CD, a disc highlighting the best of Charlotte-area musical acts. In addition to airplay on the station's "90 minutes" show, the song was played in regular rotation to promote the CD. The band also won the first place at the East Coast Showcase final (The Money, Rock Hill SC) and received prestigious awards such as Best Mainstream Rock Band, Best Bass, etc. More recently, in Creative Loafing's "Ultra Extreme Best Of 2003" edition in Charlotte NC, U-Phonik was chosen by the readers as the "Best local rock or blues band/artist" and Stephan Angers, U-Phonik's lead singer, also was voted as the reader's pick for the "Best local male vocalist".
The most important element of U-Phonik's music, though, is the passion which drives the band. Their love for music resurfaces again and again in their songs, reaching out to their audience with a colorful style that will move you
